Is Scream 5 Really That Scary? Plus Ratings
My earliest memory of watching a scary movie, was back when I was a little kid around 5 or 6 years old. I was watching Spider-man 1 with my parents in New Westminster Famous players cinema.
I’ve been told I was seriously stressing out because of the green goblin, played by Willem Dafoe at the time. Biting on my shirt and then ultimately giving up and crying and exiting the theatre with my parents to go home and rethink whether liking Spider-man was even worth it, if it was going to be scary after scary movie haha.

Fast forward to last Wednesday, I watched the new Scream movie, with little to no expectation and it did not disappoint. I would rate the movie 8.5/10
I am not going to revert to Rotten Tomatoes reviews because I feel like sometimes it can be very on target with some movie ratings and questionable and frustrating for other reviews.
According to the IMbD website Scream 5 highest review it received was 93/100 by William B. who said, “This new Scream is a killer. Smartly scary and scary smart, consistent with the history of this series but unafraid to piss off fans if it’s for the good of the story. This satire of requels may very well be the first requel done right. It’s a scream, baby.”
While on the other hand, the lowest review by David R. from the Hollywood Reporter scored the movie 50/100 and wrote that,” Sure, there’s some fun in all that meta-playfulness. But there’s also a facetiousness that wears thin and intrudes on the killing spree, making me often wish I was watching any one of the superior movies being referenced.”
Out of the 48 reviews on the website the Metascore was 60. I am not a professional movie critic but, I have seen all of the 4 previous Scream movies at least once.
I think that Scream 5 is a modern day horror film, that provides a refreshing new perspective of what makes a horror film separate itself from other genres, not to spoil the movie or anything. I would definitely recommend horror film enthusiasts to give Scream a chance to watch at least one and develop your own thoughts and opinions on the movie. I feel like all are welcome to watch at their own discretion and be very careful in what you are getting yourself into when watching this movie.
