(3) Sports and Spiritual Journey
August 9, 2019
What it do, ladies and gentlemen! Welcome back to the blog!! Todays topics will cover: my spiritual journey, and sports. Lets get it started.
Spiritual journey:
My spiritual journey as a Catholic is ongoing. Yes, there are spiritual highs and lows but, what I strive to do is to find a balance that will help me feel sustained and will encourage me to continue the journey. Some examples of when I experience or go through a spiritual high include: after Youth For Christ events (Regional Youth Conferences, Youth Power, True North Conferences, as well as North Chapter Assemblies and Collectives.) Also sometimes after going for mass. At these YFC events, it is so easy for me to feel good in a space spiritually when there are other people around me who may be experiencing the same thing but, maybe for better reasons than why I feel good. During worships, when certain songs are played by the music ministry, I don't know it is hard for me to explain but, those songs remind me of the way I should be as a Catholic man on a journey. The songs inspire me to be a better person and follow the virtues, remind me of the time, talent and treasure that everyone has and why it should be used in the correct ways. They make me essentially catch feels. When I write feels this is what I mean, by listening and singing certain songs during a worship, my heart, mind and soul all feel connected in a spiritual way and I feel at peace, I am able to reflect and look back at the good and bad that I have done and I feel compelled to make improvements on myself to be a better person, a better friend, a better son, a better Catholic and ultimately, a better child of God.
Spiritual lows are experiences where Christ is not centred in my life. I stray away from the Lord, I sin more often, I do the bad things that not only hurt me but, hurt people around me and disappoint God. Those are times when my faith is put to the test. Where I try to ask myself. What is missing? Why do I feel what I am feeling right now? When will this pain and suffering stop? How am I hurting myself and who is being impacted as a result? It is in those times of woe and sorrow that allow me to slowly return back to God. Realize that God is there to help. Realize that I am not only in this journey. The journey does not end at death but, the journey is to essentially be in Heaven with Him, and Mother Mary, and all the saints and angels.

Sports. Basketball. So, recently after the Toronto Raptors won the NBA Championship with big help from the MVP Kawhi Leonard, I was faced with a tough decision. A little back story. At this time during the regular season, I would occasionally cheer for the Golden State Warriors but, during the playoffs I switched and stuck with the Toronto Raptors despite what some of my friends were saying. So, by the times the playoffs ended and trades were being made, I was hesitant on whether I would fully support Toronto and become a "real" fan or side with another team. So on Twitter and what I told my friends as well was that if Kawhi were to take his talents elsewhere and leave Toronto I would fully support the Utah Jazz and Donavan Mitchell. On the other hand, if Kawhi were to stay in Toronto, I would go from being a bandwagon, to a full fledge fan. That was the ultimatum for me and so, when Kawhi signed with the Clippers, I knew my fate. I embraced it. The Utah Jazz next season have a lot of potential to go far in the regular season in the Western Conference. I think that they can go far in the NBA Playoffs comes, the post season. This season will definitely be exciting to watch, I look forward to it.
The English Premiere League is back in action. Kicking off the 2019/2020 season. I feel weird because I did not watch the opening game between Liverpool and Norwich City. When it comes down to soccer, I mentioned in the first blog about how I began to support Chelsea fc. This season for Chelsea, I think that the sky is the limit. They have acquired new players, like Christian Pulisic, they are in the Champions League, the team have hopes to do well for the regular season and potentially win the EPL. New players, new coach, new staff, this years team has a lot to play for and a lot to prove as well. I'm not going to lie, saying good bye to Eden Hazard, a long term serving member of Chelsea was difficult. All I hope is now that on Real Madrid, he is able to do amazing things well with soccer achievements and recognition as well as success with the club and the national team with Belgium during the Euros 2020.
Well that concludes this blog. Thanks for reading, also be sure to check out the first blog, and the second blog if you haven't done so already. Please be sure to look out for the next post on Monday.
This is Paul signing off ✌
